Characteristic time scales of evaporation from a subarctic reservoir

چکیده

Water bodies such as lakes and reservoirs affect the regional climate by acting heat sinks sources through evaporation of substantial quantities water over several months year. Unfortunately, energy exchange observations between deep atmosphere remain rare in northeastern North America, which has one highest densities world. This study characterizes dynamics turbulent fluxes analysing in-situ a compact dimictic reservoir (50.69° N, 63.24° W) located subarctic environment. The is characterized mean depth 44 m surface area 85 km2. Two eddy covariance (EC) systems, on raft onshore, were deployed from 27 June 2018 to 12 2022. thermal regime was monitored using two vertical chains thermistors. Results indicate annual rate 590 ± 66 mm, equivalent ≈51% precipitation, with 84% occurring at high August freeze-up late December episodic pulses. It difficult close balance because magnitude large time lag storage term. To circumvent this problem, we opted perform calculations for year that started first March, column its lowest point could thus be ignored. From December, monthly Bowen ratios increased near-zero negative values about 1.5. After September, due smaller vapour pressure deficits, latent steadily decreased until had complete ice cover. Opposite diurnal cycles sensible revealed during open period, peaking night afternoon.

Evaluation of Eight Evaporation Estimation Methods in a Semi-arid Region (Dez reservoir, Iran)

Establishing satisfactory estimation methods of lake evaporation has been crucial vital for research and management of water resources and ecosystems. Determining the accurate method to estimate evaporation from reservoirs in the investigation and management of water resources is very important. Hence, in this study eight empirical methods such as; Makkink, DeBruin-Kejiman, Penman, Priestley-Ta...

Characteristic scales of earthquake rupture from numerical models

Numerical models of earthquake rupture are used to investigate characteristic length scales and size distributions of repeated earthquakes on vertical, planar fault segments. The models are based on exact solutions of static three-dimensional (3-D) elasticity. Dynamical rupture is approximated by allowing the static stress field to expand from slip motions at a single velocity. To show how the ...

Characteristic Scales in Galaxy Formation

Recent data, e.g. from SDSS and 2dF, reveal a robust bi-modality in the distribution of galaxy properties, with a characteristic transition scale at stellar mass M∗ ∼ 3× 10 10 M⊙ (near L∗), corresponding to virial velocity V ∼ 100 kms . Smaller galaxies tend to be blue disks of young populations. They define a “fundamental line” of decreasing surface brightness, metallicity and velocity with de...

Assessing Characteristic Scales Using Wavelets

Characteristic scale is a notion that pervades the geophysical sciences, but it has no widely accepted precise definition. The wavelet transform decomposes a time series into coefficients that are associated with different scales. The variance of these coefficients can be used to decompose the variance of the time series across different scales. A practical definition for characteristic scale c...
